From nervous first performances to festival crowds, E-Rooms gives Skelmersdale’s people a voice, confidence and somewhere to belong.
For years, the E-Rooms has been a home for music, creativity and community. One of the few dedicated creative spaces left in Skelmersdale, it is the town’s only purpose-built music venue. Through its Academy, young musicians learn, grow and find the courage to perform, while established artists keep the town’s proud musical tradition alive.
But the story reaches far beyond music.
As a Community Interest Company, E-Rooms welcomes SEN/SEND groups, community organisations, parties and social events. When the Wardens Club closed for refurbishment, its weekly bingo group needed somewhere to go. E-Rooms opened its doors, and the group loved it so much they stayed.
“Give people a stage, and you give a community its voice.”
That same spirit of welcome shines through SkemFest. With roots dating back to the 1990s, the modern festival was revived in 2016. Today, Aaron Martin at the Buffs Community Club organises SkemFest, working alongside E-Rooms, which leads on the music, sound and bands. Together, they create a free, family-friendly celebration of Skelmersdale.
In 2026, three E-Rooms Academy bands, aged just 13 to 16, stepped onto the outdoor stage before hundreds of people and absolutely smashed it. The newly formed E-Rooms community choir also made its festival debut, while Tanhouse Morris dancers, circus performers, families and music filled the field with colour and joy.
SkemFest also raised £3,241 for Birch Green Amateur Boxing Club, supporting its running costs and the purchase of new equipment, another organisation giving people purpose, discipline and somewhere to belong.
Now E-Rooms is looking towards 2027, when SkemFest in its ‘modern’ form celebrates its 10th anniversary, with a promise to make it bigger and better!
