As the seasons change, autumn offers a gentle reminder that letting go can be natural, necessary and healing.
As the leaves begin to change and fall, autumn reminds us that letting go is a natural part of life.
We often hold on tightly to worries, old habits, difficult memories or things that are no longer serving us. Yet, just as the trees don’t resist releasing their leaves, sometimes we can benefit from allowing ourselves to release what we no longer need.
One simple psychosensory technique you can try is the Butterfly Hug. Cross your arms over your chest and gently place each hand on the opposite upper arm. Slowly alternate tapping left and right, while taking calm, steady breaths.
As you tap, imagine each breath helping you release a little of the tension you’ve been carrying. You might quietly say to yourself: “I can let go of what I no longer need.”
There’s no need to force anything or make a particular feeling disappear. Simply notice what arises and give yourself permission to soften around it.
This autumn, perhaps we can take a lesson from nature: change doesn’t always mean something has gone wrong. Sometimes it’s simply time to clear space for something new to begin.
