The last few months have felt full in every sense of the word.
There have been family trips, a return to Ibiza to visit the place where my brother’s ashes were scattered, a lot of laughter, some wild swimming under a waterfall at Ingleton, and then a very busy August with my head firmly back in work.
At About the Town, summer has brought some brilliant collaborations, from our HAF clubs with SHARES to Little Cooks, which we were able to offer free to local families. I’ve also been working incredibly hard behind the scenes on #HashtagGirls, launching in September. I’m excited, nervous and slightly terrified in equal measure, because it feels like one of the biggest projects I’ve ever taken on. But I genuinely believe it can make a positive difference to the girls involved, and I feel very lucky to have some brilliant women helping me deliver it.
This issue has reminded me, too, how much there is still to discover about Skelmersdale. From Andy’s Man Club and Skelmersdale Town FC returning home, to Susan Brownrigg’s latest book, and even a story about roundabouts, there is always something new to learn.
We’ve also introduced Andy’s Diaries, giving Andy his own space to share life, fundraising and the realities of living with spina bifida, prejudice and everyday challenges.
“Life feels fullest when you’re creating something that matters.”
Autumn for me feels a little intimidating, but I firmly believe that when you’re spending your time on people, places and things that genuinely matter to you, then that‘s a life well lived.
