Purpose Beyond the Party

Skelmersdale’s Mace O’Shaughnessy is using music, welfare and education to create safer spaces and stronger community connections.

“She poured genuine care, time and energy into creating something bigger than herself.”

At a young age, Mace O’Shaughnessy is already becoming one of Skelmersdale’s most inspiring community figures.

Known locally as the founder of Round-About UK and SHED, Mace has dedicated herself to creating safer, more supportive environments for young people through harm reduction, sexual health awareness, sensory welfare and education.

Her passion for helping others was clear earlier this year when she organised the “Sorry 4 Party Rocking!” fundraiser at The Buffs in Skelmersdale.

The event brought together live music, artists, performers, local businesses and supporters to raise money for New Start Charity and West Lancs Ketamine Awareness & Support.

Held in memory of Daniel Wright, who sadly passed away 10 years ago aged just 20, and Beth Ashton who died at just 25 years old, the night raised almost £1,000 while also opening important conversations around addiction, support and community care.

For many who attended, it was more than just a fundraiser. It was a reminder of the strength, compassion and unity that still exists within the Skelmersdale community when people come together for a shared purpose.

But beyond fundraising, the event reflected the kind of person Mace is, compassionate, driven and determined to make people feel safer and supported.

Through Round-About UK and SHED, she continues breaking barriers around nightlife welfare, sexual health and education, using lived experience and understanding to help others feel seen, informed and less alone.

This year, Mace will also bring that experience to About the Town’s Hashtag Girls project, helping support and inspire young girls across the community.

“Community means creating spaces where people feel safe, supported and understood.”
